
News18 reported that some crucial meetings between Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers and senior party leaders Amit Shah and JP Nadda took place this week signalling some organisational decisions soon.
Crucial states like Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Odisha, West Bengal, and others are yet to get their party state presidents.
So far, 14 state presidents have been appointed, but as per the party’s constitution, elections must be held in at least 50% of states before the national presidential elections.
The elections for the national president post were scheduled for January but it still remains pending. It is believed that the party is taking time to decide on the leader ahead of crucial state polls this year and early next year.
JP, the present national president has been serving since January 2020. He had his term extended beyond the three-year limit to ensure a smooth transition.
The party constitution says the term of the national president is generally three years, elected through consensus within the party.
